Why You Need to Start Now

Why You Need to Start Now

I want my life to count for something, and I’m guessing you do as well. But to have a life that counts, you need to make an impact. And to make an impact, you have to get started.

In short: to make an impact, you must do. Everything else will follow.

But even though we want a life that counts and even though we want to leave an impact, we still wait to do.

We tell ourselves that we need to learn more. We tell ourselves that it’s not the right time yet. We tell ourselves any number of excuses to prevent ourselves from making the difficult change from planning to doing.

And so we never start.

The Double Your Age Test
Here’s a different way to think about this and a good reason for you to start…

How old are you right now?

Now, take your current age and double it. So if you’re 25 years old, the number in your mind is 50 years old. If you’re 40, the number in your mind is 80 years old.

Do you know someone who has died at that age? I bet you do.

In fact, many people have died when they were twice as old as you.

Here’s what that means:
Right now, at this very moment, half of your life could already be over.

Half of everything you have ever done or ever will do has already passed you by.

Half of the opportunities you will ever have are gone for good.

Half of the moments you could have changed for the better have already been used.

Your first reaction is probably to deny it or ignore it, but the simple truth is you have no control over it and it very well could be true.

So, here’s my question to you: What will you do with your last half?

I say give everything you have and start as soon as you can.

Serve others.

Demand more of yourself.

Become better.

Time is limited, hours are numbered, and the only thing you have control over is what you do now.

You can’t afford to get your ducks in a row. You can’t afford to wait until the right time.

The time to act is now because it’s the only time you have.
