Meditation Is Not Something You Do

Meditation Is Not Something You Do

Meditation is the practice of NOT identifying with this next thought that arises.

It is the practice of allowing things to be as they are.

So meditation is not something that you do.

It is something you stop doing.

You're becoming less distracted.

You are not this next thought, and you are not obligated to follow through on this next impulse.

Or this one, or that one, or this one...

And of course, you could practice this in the sanctity of a quiet room for 10 minutes.

But you could also do this in the midst of an argument, or while cooking your next meal, or while scrolling social media.

Therefore, real meditation does not require you to go inward.

It requires true openness--to the thoughts that arise, to the changing sensations of energy, or to the person in front of you.

So right now, open your eyes, sharpen your focus and look out at the world as if this were the very first moment of your life. Because it always is.
