Love is the Gift of Attention

Love is the Gift of Attention

Few things are more simple, yet more widely misunderstood, than love.

Love is not a craving for attention, nor is it a set of demands we place upon those we profess to love.

Rather, love is the gift of attention—the act of offering ourselves to another person, not out of need but out of a genuine desire to share our happiness with them.

Love is the direct enjoyment of being in another's presence, a feeling that arises naturally when we are already content within ourselves.

When we allow our own happiness to shine in the presence of others, we create a space of warmth and connection that renews our relationships with love and light.

But all too often, we have tied a knot in our hearts—an attachment to the idea of who we are and what we need—that prevents us from experiencing love in its purest form.

We become preoccupied with our own needs and desires and forget the simple joy of being with another person.

The key to unlocking the power of love, then, is to untie the knot of the self—to let go of our own expectations and simply be present with those we care about.

And in doing so, we create space for attention and love to flow freely within ourselves and toward those for whom we aspire to love more deeply.
